The majority of London's most popular events take place during the summer* months, with the first top summer London event being the annual Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race (3 April), passing under the many famous bridges of London's River Thames, and watched by thousands of spectators lining the river banks.
The FA Cup Final (15 May) is the world-famous showpiece of the English domestic football calendar, watched by a capacity crowd at Wembley Stadium and millions on TV and in bars and pubs around London. The end-of-season football finals continue with the Championship Play-Off Final (22 May) which follows a week later, with the winning team gaining promotion to the English Premier League.
Horticulturalists from around the world will flock to trendy West London for the annual Chelsea Flower Show (25 - 29 May). The historic Henley Royal Regatta (30 June - 4 July) comes to London in June each year, as temperatures approach the annual high average of around 20 degrees celsius. Just outside London, in the county of Hampshire, the Farnborough Air Show (19-25 July) is a mainly outdoor event, hosting an array of spectacular aerobatic stunts for the many thousands of local and international visitors.
Connoisseurs of alchoholic beverages pack into the Earl's Court Exhibition Centre for London's Great British Beer Festival (3-7 August), and the month ends with more top-class sport as the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final comes to Wembley Stadium.
September in London brings the approaching Autumn, and begins with music on the Last Night of the BBC Proms (11 September). The London Triathlon (26 September) is a multi-ability sports event, with running, cycling and triathlon for all ages.
